Our Local Authority client has a 3 Month CONTRACT vacancy (with a possibility of an extension) for a SERVICE MANAGER (CHILDRENS), details as follows

Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is to provide strategic and operational leadership /management to deliver a range of services for children and families. The role is delivered against a clear set of national legislative and statutory frameworks under the Children Act 1989, Crime and Disorder Act 1989, Education Act 1996, School Standards and Framework Act 1998, Crime and Disorder Act 1998 Education Act 2002, Adoption and Children Act 2002, Children Act 2004, Education Act 2005, Education and Inspections Act 2006, Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, Childcare Act 2006, Education and Skills Act 2008, Apprenticeships Skills Children and Learning Act 2009, Academies Act 2010, Children and Families Act 2014, the Care Act 2014, Education and Adoption Act 2016, Children and Social Work Act 2017, and other relevant legislation.

The post-holder will contribute to the development of strong partnerships with schools, Police, NHS, voluntary and community sector and other local stakeholders to develop a place based approach to promote the safety, well-being and achievement of children and young people in their locality.


Ensure that services are efficiently and effectively managed and that high standards of professional practice and delivery are promoted, understood, applied and maintained within the designated service/function.
Ensure proper and full records of service are maintained and performance reporting by staff and the service/function is timely and appropriate and that performance targets specific to the service area are understood, monitored, evaluated and met.
Provide leadership, direction and management to service specific groups, teams and individual staff; including leading project groups covering the full range of people management activities.
Contribute to the preparation and implementation of service plans and assist, advise and support in the review and commissioning of services locally.
Prepare reports for committees, sub-committees and other internal/external groups and attend meetings as required as a representative of the service.
Manage delegated budgets, which may include external grants and funding streams, in accordance with Organisation policies.
Deputise for and represent the Head of Service as required.
Promote and secure beneficial close working relationships at an appropriate level with agencies and partners.
Essential Requirements

Professional qualification or relevant degree as specified in the Context Statement.
Post qualification professional training or award.
Substantial post-qualification experience in a related field of work.
Care or service planning (including complex cases) and professional supervision.
Proven experience of staff management and performance management.
Significant experience of implementing policies and strategies in a similar or related setting.
Detailed comprehensive and up to date knowledge of all relevant legislation relevant to the service specific area.
Detailed knowledge of social policy relating to the service user group.
Detailed and consolidated knowledge of current practices and processes for managing the needs of the service group.
Understanding of joint working practices with other agencies.
Knowledge of budget management processes.
Good knowledge of directorate policies, practice and procedures e.g. primary care groups and trusts and other relevant agencies.
