About the Client:
* Our client, specialists in the Fire and Security industry, are seeking a hardworking and passionate Senior Electronics Design Engineer based around the Southampton area to join their engineering team on a permanent basis.
Working from outline specifications, responsible for the architecture, design, development and verification of new electronics hardware and solutions needed to meet customer and product requirements.
Take a leadership role in multi-discipline and cross-functional technical projects to develop analogue and digital electronics hardware needed as part of the product solution. Work will encompass developing and proving the viability of new concepts from first principles – including circuit modelling and calculations and working with customers, suppliers, and other engineers to assist with integration, commissioning and problem resolution. In addition, you’ll be required to assist with the management of design workload through the team and help establish a regular rhythm for control and prioritisation. As Senior Engineer you’ll interface with the operations team to ensure that all data related to the electronic and electrical design and manufacture of a system is available for successful procurement and assembly and be the first point of contact for initial escalation.
Requirement’s analysis, product architecture, design and development.
Generation of required design documentation, including design calculations, circuit diagrams, PCB layout, material lists, functional specifications, and test requirements.
Ensure designs meet all required legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements with safety being a critical focus area.
To provide technical support as necessary to customers, operations, and strategic suppliers on legacy as well as new products.
To help develop and manage day-to-day activities within the design and technical support teams.
Complete electronic design work including circuit design, simulation, schematic capture & PCB layout using computer aided design software.
Generate necessary design and build documentation including functional specifications, BoMs, test requirements, MFG instructions, etc.
Responsible for electronic and electrical part specification and selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost.
Ensure designs and products meet codes of practice and recognised standards applicable to the company, the customer or regulatory requirements.
Work collaboratively with the engineering teams and production to document, build and verify prototype parts and train support technicians.
Be responsive in providing information to help support pre-sales bid work including concept designs.
Provide technical expertise in assessing non-conforming product and where needed provide formal technical reports.
Performing circuit simulation and stress analysis along with reliability assessment.
Provide technical support to customers.
Help develop and manage departmental budgets.
Perform day-to-day team management, including administration, workload balancing and prioritisation as well as ensure work practices and processes are developed and adhered to.
A good degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalency in work experience.
Minimum 10 years of electronics design experience with a bias towards analogue and switch mode PSUs and supporting circuitry.
Proven ability regarding PCB layout design and tracking.
Accustomed to working to ISO9001 standards and meeting CE/UKCA requirements.
Excellent design experience with regard to power conversion techniques: AC-DC, DC-DC, PFC, etc..
Full understanding and working implementation of Safety (EN IEC (phone number removed) and EMC requirements (CE/UKCA: EN(phone number removed)-2).
Good experience: EMC filter design, control loop design, stress analysis, design of power converters and battery chargers.
Natural and effective communicator.
Working knowledge of EN54-4, EN(phone number removed), UL294, UL864, EN(phone number removed)
Communication protocols: RS232
Proficiency with Altium (CAD) and/or EPICOR (MRP).
Design experience and implementation of Lithium chargers (LiFePO4)
Strong team leadership and resource management experience.
Strong EMC experience in setting up equipment and performing tests to evaluate product performance.
Good experience working with regulatory bodies and certified test houses on test and certification of products.
Good experience working within a regulated industry
