We are seeking a Trainee Maintenance Engineer with a mechanical bias on behalf of our client, a successful manufacturing company based in Stanton, Suffolk. This is a permanent, full-time, employed position working 39 hours per week Monday – Friday working on a day shift.
The Company
Our client has been designing and manufacturing machinery and accessories (on both a small and large scale) for global agricultural markets for 50 years. They have achieved enormous success in their field due to their reputation for quality products and on-site engineering expertise. They are also a very stable employer, with high retention rates of staff and an excellent friendly, tidy, and safe working environment.
Our client has a large factory floor with over 90 workers in departments such as CNC, laser cutting, shot blasting, powder coating, machine assembly and fitting, welding, brake press and more. Their machinery is a mix of old and reliable as well as brand-new equipment.
The Role
Working as part of a two-person team providing planned and reactive maintenance to the whole factory, plus outdoor areas. There will be a great deal of on-the-job-learning which can also be supplemented by training courses in relevant areas. Ultimately, the goal will be to become sufficiently skilled and experienced enough to step up into the role of Factory Maintenance Engineer.
Duties and Responsibilities will include:
* Fault finding and repairing breakdowns on machines
* Carrying out routine checks on fire sprinkler system, fire alarm systems, intruder alarms, compressed air systems, emergency lighting testing, portable appliance testing and substation checks
* Assisting contractors on additional maintenance work
* Ensure compliance of health and safety legislation and safe systems
* Recording of weekly and monthly inspections, ensuring all files are kept up to date and readily available
* Responsible for the reliability of the plant, finding faults and repairing breakdowns
* Providing suggestions for improvements resulting in reduced downtime
* Responsible for repair and maintenance of electric/ air tools
Role Requirements
We are seeking a candidate with a good base knowledge and hands-on mechanical engineering abilities who has plenty of initiative, and an enthusiasm to learn. It is a varied position which would suit somebody who has been involved in mechanical engineering, whether it be fitting, mechanics, welding, or a machine maintenance background.
You’ll also need a real passion and enthusiasm for troubleshooting, fixing, and ensuring machinery is working smoothly. Ideally, you’ll be able to understand manufacturing deadlines and pressures, considering how engineering work affects productivity.
Candidates who wish to be considered will ideally have the following:
* Be self-motivated and hard working
* Genuine interest in all things mechanical and electrical
* Previous hands-on mechanical engineering experience
* Be able to communicate effectively and positively with the factory floor
* Flexibility in hours and location of work
* Effective time management
* Some IT familiarity
* Some electrical knowledge would be advantageous
39 standard hours as follows: 08:00 – 16:30 Monday to Thursday, 08:00 – 15:30 each Friday. Please note that those interested in the role must be willing to be flexible with their working hours on occasion. There is usually regular overtime available (mid-week paid at time and a third and over the weekend paid at time and a half or double time) however this is not contractually guaranteed.
The hourly starting rate on offer with the role is between £13.00ph - £14.90 per hour. There is overtime paid at as time and third for mid-week overtime, time and a half on a Saturday and double time on Sundays. The rate offered will be a ‘starting rate’ which is somewhat negotiable dependent on experience.
