Job summary

Assesses patients, plans, implements care, provides advice, maintains associated records.

Carries out nursing procedures for patients and their families

Provides clinical supervision to junior members of staff / students

Skills/ Abilities

* IV cannulation and IV additives (to be assessed by peer review undertaken by Authorities on an individual basis prior to commencement of the first assignment with the Authority)

* Demonstrate safe use of patient equipment incorporating use of infusion devices

* Competent in basic life support

* Effective communication skills (written, non-verbal & verbal)

* Good interpersonal skills

* Able to work as an effective team member

* Able to supervise and teach junior staff

* Able to prioritise & meet deadlines

* Able to manage difficult situations

* Uses own initiative and is able to take decisions

* Self motivated

* Able to assess, plan, implement & evaluate programmes of care

* Sound clinical skills

* Able to maintain clear and legible documentation

* Able to care for a group of at least 6 patients

* Able to record an ECG

Experience

* Relevant healthcare experience in the field of the assignment

* Current (within last 6 months) evidence based practice

* Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of the particular patient group for the assignment

* Working within multi-disciplinary teams

* If newly qualified (within the last year) - evidence that a preceptorship programme has been completed successfully

Knowledge & Understanding

* Practices within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct

* Promote people’s equality, diversity & rights

* To ensure action contribute to quality

* Knowledge of Clinical Governance & a commitment to clinical supervision

* Knowledge of the individual’s responsibility towards health & safety

* Customer care and complaints handling

Education

Registered on the appropriate part of the NMC register for the assignment
