Position: Head of Project Delivery Office

Location: Derby, Oxford or Manchester areas with remote working

Salary: £90-110k (DOE), car/allowance, bonus and excellent benefits package

Our Client: Is an integrated design and build solution provider operating in the water sector. They have over 1,000 staff working across eight regional centres, primarily supporting six long term water sector frameworks operating both on their own and increasingly in joint ventures and alliances.

The Role: Our Client delivers complex multi-discipline design and build projects. Efficient and effective Project Management and Project Delivery is business critical.

Working within a matrix structure as Head of the Project Delivery Office you will be responsible for driving consistent standards across all aspects for the delivery model, with a key focus to ensure continuous improvement in the way the business works.

This role will be the functional head for all Project Managers within the company and will work closely with Framework Managers. The functional heads of Planning and Commissioning will also be direct reports to the Head of PDO.

A key objective for the role will be to oversee a training programme which will help ensure competence at all levels within connected parts of the business. A key output will be a reduction in the number of under-performing projects, with improved transparency and quality of project reporting and better data management. The Head of PDO will also undertake periodic project deep dives and support general governance as required by the Director of UK Operations.

Key Responsibilities: Responsible for National Project Delivery Function

Be the functional lead for this discipline

Be the functional manager for all regionally based Project Managers

Be the owner of the company's Project Delivery processes and procedures.

Standardise and develop early warning metrics to aid project control

Liaise and seek the support of Regional Operational Management

Provide structure and definition for the function of Project Management

Lead our community of Project Managers and facilitate the sharing of lessons learned and best practice

Own and manage the Training Programme for Project Managers incorporating the attainment of APMP qualifications and develop further bespoke training as required.

Undertake skill set assessment and support Project Managers and prospective Project Managers in establishing development plans.

Provide one to one support and mentoring to Project Managers

Implement an audit programme in the use of project controls as required by and agreed with Regional Directors

When requested by the Regional Director or Main Board undertake Deep Dives on "at risk" projects

Support recovery plans for projects thought to be off-track.

Participate in Project Boards for large/ high risk projects.

Undertake regular nationwide review of the PM capacity and ability to manage large projects - develop a recruitment plan in conjunction with the regions.

Carry out peer reviews of high-risk tenders.

Work with Regional Management to improve the effectiveness of Project Reviews

Provide leadership and direction to the Heads of Planning and Commissioning

Key relationships: Project Management staff at all levels.

Regional Directors & Operational Management and UK Operations Director.

Experience:

Essential: Extensive experience as Senior Project Manager/Director in an integrated multi-discipline project delivery environment

Good understanding of all engineering disciplines

Water Industry experience

Engineering Degree

Able to demonstrate good commercial awareness.

Previous experience in successful line management and mentoring

Desirable: APMP qualification
