We are looking for a committed customer service professional to join our Customer Service Team at South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils.
Starting salary: £23,468 per annum
Hours: Full time (37 hours per week)
Enhanced Annual Leave: 24 days per annum (plus bank holidays & some extra days between Christmas and new year)
Annualised Hours: The potential to work extra hours and take extra leave!
WHAT DOES THE ROLE OFFER?
If you are an outstanding customer service professional who loves to work as part of a team to deliver a first class, professional and understanding service to assist customers with a wide variety of enquiries by both telephone and email and from time to time on our reception desk then you could be the person for this role. You’ll need to be a real ‘people person’ with a ‘can do’ attitude, willing to take ownership of customer enquiries and track down the answers – a bit of a detective really!
These are exciting times to be joining us, you’ll be in at the start of something new as we develop our new Customer Service Centre and implement new systems to support us in improving our customer experience.
If you’re flexible and eager to learn new things then this role will give you that opportunity - over time you’ll be able to increase your knowledge and skills and take on enquiries about an increasingly broad range of services the councils provide. Being the first point of contact for your local council there’s always something new to learn – and every day is different!
Don’t know much about your local councils? Don’t worry we’ll make sure that you have all the training and knowledge you need to get you started and you’ll get great support from the team around you.
Do you have great communication skills and a customer service qualification or can demonstrate solid Customer Service experience?
Do you have empathy for your customers, able to listen and help with solutions?
Are you able to work under pressure at times, remain calm and professional always, and maintain your attention to detail?
Do you like a mix of home and office working – able to work alone sometimes and also be a key part of a great team?

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Your role will evolve over time as our customer service centre becomes fully established, initially you will be responsible for dealing with calls for our Planning Service; handling enquiries about when planning permission is required, queries about applications that have been submitted and having conversations about work that has been started without the required consent, to state just a few of the many enquiries we get!
