Health, Safety and Compliance Manager

We have over 80 years’ experience providing a wide range of environmental services including skip hire, recycling and waste management from our 17-acre, state-of-the-art facilities in Horwich, Bolton, and excited to have opened a brand new £4.2 million waste processing plant in January 2023.

The Role – Health, Safety and Compliance Manager
As the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager, you’ll be responsible for developing and overseeing control systems to prevent and manage violations of legislative guidelines and internal policies. You’ll develop and manage Compliance, Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental functions to ensure we have the right skills, processes, materials, information and procedures to consistently comply with both legislative and customer requirements, and standards such as ISO9001/14001/18001/50001.
Your duties will include ensuring that:
* A working Environmental Management System is in place and kept up to date
* Compliance, Health and Safety responsibilities are shared by all employees
* Our Integrated Management System is fully utilised, data maintained
* Audits are completed in line with ISO9001 standards and actively working towards achieving ISO14001 standards
* Insight is provided to operational colleagues to reduce the likelihood and severity of workplace harm
* Rigorous risk assessments and accident management systems are in place
* The annual environmental plan is up to date and reviewed periodically to ensure all activities stay on track
You’ll also be responsible for:
* Reviewing, developing and implementing all aspects of our Environmental and Health and Safety Policies
* Monitoring, evaluating and reviewing existing, new and up and coming legislation
* Working proactively with managers and key staff to establish and maintain improvements

* Salary in the region of £38,000 to £50,000 with the level dependent on experience
* Permanent contract, working 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm

Our Requirements – Health, Safety and Compliance Manager
* Proven experience within a similar health and safety role
* A recognised safety qualification and professional status, such as IOSH or NEBOSH
* Superb leadership skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to work with, provide advice to, train and promote excellence in health and safety for all colleagues
* High level of attention to detail and accuracy
* Good IT skills and confident in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
* Full UK driving licence
Although not essential, demonstrable experience within and / or an understanding of the waste management industry would be highly advantageous.
