Apply on Partner SiteThe Design Manager is responsible for the management of the Pre-Development team and for providing the Company Regional Offices with pre-development and design services. The role is key in ensuring the department provides an effective and integrated service to the business.
Responsibilities
Managing, motivating and encouraging internal and external design teams;
Ensuring structural drawings and designs are produced on time, to a high quality, and provide best value;
Managing the procurement and coordination of pre-development surveys and investigations;
Developing and managing the pre-development and design process within the Company;
Working with clients to ensure that their expectations are met at all times;
Manage quality and checking procedures to avoid errors and reduce financial risk during construction;
Ensuring designs are available to those who need them, at the appropriate time;
Maintaining thorough documentation of the design process;
Keeping up-to-date with changing building legislation and codes of practice relating to design;
Visiting sites and Regional Offices as required;
Deal with requests for information from clients, colleagues and subcontractors, and coordinate as required;
Manage the team’s workload and complete any HR related requirements;
Commercial and financial management of the Pre-Development department, including monthly reporting;
Bid Team involvement, including tender design review and value improvement reporting;
Carry out the role of Principal Designer, where appointed;
Complete monthly Design reports for the management meetings;
Assist with obtaining new design work and meeting new clients where appropriate.
Knowledge, training and experience required.
Excellent communication and numeracy skills;
Knowledge of Health and Safety and Environmental Safety requirements;
CAD (AutoCAD) skills preferable but not essential;
Relevant Construction industry qualification preferred;
Relevant Construction industry experience including Design Management experience is essential;
A good knowledge and understanding of the CDM 2015 Regulations;
Driving licence.
