Our client is a well-established and successful manufacturer, they are looking for an experienced Plastics Extrusion Technician / Extrusion Operative / Extruder Operator to join their team on a permanent basis.

Working as part of the production team, you will efficiently carry out the set-up, operation, trouble shooting, and basic maintenance tasks associated with the running of multiple hot melt plastic extrusion lines. This role will work closely with Quality, Engineering and NPD teams to further develop processes and procedures and ensure quality and throughout targets are achieved.

Salary: £32,000 upwards (depending on experience) + 10% night shift allowance.

Shift pattern: Rotates every 2 weeks: Mon-Fri, Lates (2.00pm – 10.30pm) / Mon-Fri, Earlies (6am – 2.30pm) / Sun-Thurs, Nights (10.00pm – 6.30am)

Main responsibilities:

• Ensure the efficient running and availability of plastics extruders and associated extrusion equipment such as vacuum water baths, capstan haul-offs and pay-offs/take-ups/coilers.
• Monitor and troubleshoot all aspects of the plastic extrusion process, and utilise on-line quality control methods so that production schedules are adhered to efficiently
• Optimise machine settings during production so that product throughput, quality and waste are optimised
• Document changes, processes and procedures to optimise knowledge flow
• Working as a team with the production operators in ensuring high levels of output and maintaining a safe, well organised shop floor
• Working within cross functional team to deliver process improvements ensuring quality, productivity and utilisation targets are met
• Responsible for running of production extrusion lines and associated equipment, in line with company and regulatory requirements
• Participate in improvement activities such as SMED, Kaizen Teams (continuous improvement) and 6S activities
• Contribute to production trials, new product development and improvement projects
• Maintain factory health and safety standards and compliance
• Monitor and report on Production KPIs and metrics to ensure targets are achieved
• Development and delivery of plastics processing training plans for production staff

Requirements:

• Qualifications - Modern apprenticeship, HNC or equivalent in Engineering, Manufacturing, Polymer Science, or other relevant discipline.
• At least 4 years experience of working in a Plastics Extrusion Production environment, or similar role.
• Good knowledge of plastics extrusion production processes, machinery and equipment
• Good understanding of polymer behaviour throughout the full extrusion process
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong team player, working across departments to achieve business goals
• Ability to analyse and resolve technical problems at root cause
• A good understanding of Lean Manufacturing methodologies and techniques would be an advantage
• Proficient in the use of MRP systems such as SAP would be advantageous
