Our client is seeking a Health and Safety Practitioner / Principal Designer to join a busy Engineering Consultancy in Belfast due to an increasing pipeline of work within a range of sectors. Our client requires an experienced construction industry health and safety practitioner to undertake multiple roles including Principal Designer / CDM advisor and Project Supervisor (Design Stage) working in NI, GB or ROI. The successful candidate shall join an established team of experienced health and safety practitioners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a key member of the Safety Team you will have good knowledge of the design process and construction process gained from broad experience across a range of industry sectors. You will have strong knowledge of the CDM Regulations and other core health and safety regulations. You will work primarily on civil infrastructure projects but other projects will include, building, public realm and environmental improvements. Your duties will include:

Providing Project Health and Safety advice in the role of Principal Designer
Carrying out design reviews with team members and co-ordinating health and safety matters and design risk management at design meetings or in risk workshops with focus on particular and significant risks
Compiling and issuing pre-construction / preliminary health and safety information both to the design team and the principal contractor
Reviewing and commenting on construction phase plans, risk assessments and method statements
Carry out reviews of contractor design proposals and temporary works designs
Conducting health and safety site inspections and preparing reports
Compiling health and safety files during the project and handing over to the client on completion
Visiting sites and carrying out an initial appraisal to establish existing hazards and site restrictions
Assist the team and client with obtaining relevant site records
Assisting with internal health and safety matters relating to our workplace and management systems
Collaborate, share lessons learnt and work closely with the health and safety team
Provide professional support and advice to multi-disciplinary design teams and clients during the design and construction stages of a wide range of projects to ensure their compliance with their statutory duties
Capable of managing health and safety roles on multiple projects within a busy multi-disciplinary consultancyKEY ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

Have gained a Degree in a related design or construction discipline (or alternatively a Level 6 Diploma in construction related health and safety)
5+ years' construction / health & safety experience working in a similar type consultancy / advisory role
Minimum Level 2 Health and Safety related qualification (eg IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent)
Membership of a relevant professional body
Full Driving Licence and willing to travel in NI, GB or ROIDesired

Minimum Level 3 Health and Safety related qualification (eg NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety or Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent)
Undertaken accredited PSDP course for ROI projects
Membership of Association for Project Safety - CMaPS grade
Membership of IOSH, IIRSM, ICE H&S Register or other health and safety organisationIf successful you will be joining a busy engineering consultancy with an extensive project workload.
