Apply on Partner SiteEducated Appointments are delighted to be working with a national pre-employment training organisation to source a Training and Learning Lead. Working remotely, the successful candidate will need to be able to travel to Manchester (around 1 day a month) for team meetings.
The main aim of the role is to provide expert teaching and learning knowledge across the companies' learner facing provision, focusing on ensuring staff have the highest quality skills to deliver effective education to their students. Reporting into the Head of Quality, you will observe teaching and learning practises, mentor staff, curriculum design and plan staff development opportunities to successfully prepare staff to perform to a high standard against Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework.
The organisation, which was founded in 2011, delivers pre-employment training in Construction, Contact Centre, Digital Skills, LGV, Customer Service and Warehousing.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To work closely with the Head of Quality to implement a high-quality professional teaching and learning development strategy, including the development of skills, knowledge and behaviours required to sequence the curriculum in order for learners to make excellent progress.
- To work with the Head of Quality to undertake a training needs analysis, develop, and implement a staff development (CPD) schedule, which develops skills in order to improve and exceed outcomes.
- To be an integral member of the companies formal observation team, ensuring timely and accurate formal observations of staff and are conducted in line with Ofsted requirements.
- To be part of the TLA support function, enabling all staff to deliver consistently high-quality teaching and learning.
- Provide critical and constructive feedback to staff in a professional manner that explicitly outlines current performance and remedies for improvement.
- Devise for staff a TLA action plan that enables staff to be focussed on improvements and supported with follow up meetings and resources/ strategies surrounding pedagogy.
- To support staff with the actioning of TLA action plans, helping to tackle weaknesses and promoting good practice across all types of provision.
- To propose an annualised programme of cost effective / high value impactful professional development for example buddying schemes, peer observations, teaching triangles, learning sets and manager led delivery.
- To contribute to reports on the impact of professional development on the overall effectiveness of all provisions. This may involve collaboration with the HR department to access records relating to Staff Qualifications, Appraisals and CPD Activity.
- To contribute to the development of a new staff induction.
- To lead the development of digital skills so that staff are confident and skilled to deliver learning using technology that is cost effective, meets learner and employer needs. Digital skills that can explicitly track learner progress and skills development and can provide feedback to learners, so they know how to improve.
- Lead a bespoke continuous professional development strategy that ensures the business meet statutory obligations of (but not limited to) : Prevent; Safeguarding; Careers Advice and Guidance; English and Maths; Equality and Diversity; Fundamental British Values utilising methods which test learning and understanding so that they can apply to their roles effectively for the benefit of learners
- To act as expert lead for staff continuous professional development solutions for pedagogy, in addition to supporting the professional development of all delivery staff by the championing and dissemination of best practice in teaching, learning and assessment by mentoring individuals and teams and delivering tailored CPD sessions.
- Within the TLA team, share effective and best practice across the organisation each month, for example by a blog or Learning Matters Newsletter.
- To work collaboratively across all provision to provide mentoring and developmental support which results in T&L improvement through learning walks, supportive observations and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and outstanding retention, achievement and progression rates.
- To contribute to the co-ordination and delivery of opportunities to share best practice and benchmarking internally and externally.
- To actively research new and innovative learning strategies and approaches that improve the experience of our learner and customers and engage our staff in innovative approaches and ways of thinking.
- To continually seek new and innovative ways to improve what we do and how we do it to ensure we are effective and efficient as a directorate.
- To actively improve curriculum to ensure that content is sequenced in a way to ensure learners retain all knowledge learnt.
- To update professional knowledge and skills through a commitment to own learning and development
- Keep abreast with changes to the FE landscape and Ofsted requirements.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience of working in educational environments in FE/ Skills Sector, especially work-based learning.
- Working collaboratively with external bodies to develop quality and curriculum.
- 3 years' + experience in an advanced practitioner/ teacher educator or similar.
- Development of implementation of CPD programmes which are targeted to business and strategic priorities and impactful.
- Experience of undertaking formal OTLA's.
- Experience of mentoring staff to improve practise.
- Degree level education/ L4 in a related subject: HR/ Business Management/ Training & Development.
- PGCE/ CertEd/ DTLLS or equivalent.
- Teaching/ training experience of successful improvement in a range of quality assurance and continuous improvement and inspection methodology in the FE & Skills Sector.
- English & Maths at Level 2 or above
