The role

The purpose of the Buyer is to ensure the regional developments are provided with building materials, hired and owned plant, equipment, welfare, PPE, sundries and consumables to enable the site teams to build to the correct specification and quality, in a timely and commercial manner to deliver results against budgets and ensure best value.

To work with Site Management and Quantity Surveyors to ensure all materials are delivered in an efficient and timely manner; seeking out opportunities to reduce “work in progress” and/or increase Margin through buying on all developments.

To provide support and ensure efficient and accurate management of the P2P (Purchase to Pay) system used within Orbit Homes (Microsoft D365) with respect to Purchase Ordering and invoice queries and to actively manage and resolve supplier and Homes queries in relation to invoice queries to ensure its efficient use in a Regional Role ensuring compliance with Group Standing Orders

This role is part of Orbit Homes where you'll help us to build 6,500 new affordable homes by 2025 in a sustainable way.

What you'll achieve

Analyse tender returns, negotiate best value and place purchase orders on the company system in accordance with the Procurement Delivery Plan.

Produce a material Procurement Delivery Plan for each development

Take responsibility for the Materials budget and prepare a monthly Buying Report to identify cost variances, ad-hoc orders, site loss, damage, materials on site and forecast the cost to complete for the Project QS to include within the monthly Valuation

Actively support and ensure efficient and accurate processing of the regional requirements of D365 in relation to Homes invoices and the efficient management of the Companies P2P System, ensuring payment of invoices are made within agreed payment terms and with necessary approval in line with Group Standing Orders and to monitor and resolve invoice queries and any problems within the system to facilitate payment within the agreed payment terms

To be a Regional liaison point between the various teams within Orbit Homes, Centralised Procurement, Accounts Payable, Finance and Suppliers

What you'll bring

Essential skills

Strong background and experience in housing/housebuilding procurement or relevant construction experience

Ability to measure and take off quantities and produce material schedules

Ability to read and interpret technical information and construction drawings

Experience of managing a materials budget and spend

Experience of negotiating group deals and rebates with manufacturers and suppliers

Desirable skills

CIPS qualification or similar
