Job Title: Electrical Hardware Test Engineer

Location: Andover - onsite role

Salary: up to £45,000 approx

Travel: 10% travel required.

Important information:

While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material,
moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.

The Role:

The Electrical Hardware Test Engineer (eMotors) will be a part of development projects for electric machines for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Responsible for the detailed design and application of electric motors for propulsion. The engineer will develop new or modify existing products for new customer and/or internal product developments, following the defined product concept for eDrive products.

Creating an eDrive system for new vehicle applications requires a full team approach, including all sub-systems. The eMotor must fit within system boundaries and be affordable and efficient while delivering the necessary torque and power for platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Testing Responsible for all Europe electric machines design and applications for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles..
Perform testing across analysis domains (strength, NVH, thermal etc.).
Validate & correlate e-motor models with test data to continually improve accuracy of simulation methods and focus on developing new analysis capabilities/processes.
Responsible for design, development, analysis, and testing of electric motors for electric traction drives (voltage < 1000V, current < 900A) for eDrive applications.
Coordination of technical interfaces for the eMotor components. .
Coordination of the technical requirements for the eMotor components with suppliers.
Work closely with customers and partners for all aspects of eMotor vehicle application and testing.
Data Acquisition: Utilize LabVIEW software to set up data acquisition systems, collect real-time data during tests, and analyze results.
Test Procedure Development: Create and optimize test procedures, protocols, and test plans to ensure accurate and repeatable testing processes.
Troubleshooting: Identify and diagnose issues during testing, perform root cause analysis, and propose solutions to improve motor performance.
Reporting: Generate detailed test reports, documenting test methodologies, results, and any deviations from expected performance.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate dynomometers and testing equipment to ensure accuracy
and reliability.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment during testing activities.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar preferred.
2-5 years of experiences in Labview, Data Acquisition, Concept of electric motor design required (college co-ops/internships of experience sufficient)
Basic knowledge of the design of electrical machines required.
Good understanding in the field of power electronics and electric drive technology.
Experience with design, simulation and requirements management tools (e.g. CATIA V5, PTC Integrity DOORS, Matlab / Simulink).
High level of analytical ability, understand of engineering theory and principles of design.
