As our new Junior IT Operations Controller, you will provide 24 hour cover on a shift basis and be the central point of monitoring for key services in DWP.
You'll be the first line of defence in responding to alerts and detecting IT service issues before users are impacted.
You will support fellow shift team members in first line fault diagnosis, resolution and support major incident management.
You'll monitor infrastructure and applications across traditional Datacentre and Cloud (AWS and Azure).
You'll build and apply technical knowledge so you understand and can mitigate end-to-end impacts, escalating any issues to resolution, and working with internal and external teams.
Please note this position requires shift work:
It's 14 shifts over a 28 day period: 7 day shifts covering 07:00am - 07:00pm, and 7 night shifts each covering 07:00pm - 07:00am.
You'll get a shift allowance of 20% of the salary.
We are looking for people who have skills in:
You'll have previous knowledge and background working in live operations areas.
Experience working within a first line command centre team or incident resolution teams. Working knowledge of incident, problem and change processes.
Knowledge of IT Infrastructure e.g. Networks, Servers (Wintel, Unix, Linux), Storage, Databases.
Some knowledge of IT Application monitoring hosted within traditional Datacentres and Cloud (AWS and Azure) environments such as BMC and Dynatrace.
Ability to understand technical issues, prioritise accordingly and coordinate through to resolution with 2/3rd line technical SMEs.
You will have some understanding of ITIL framework with working knowledge of incident, problem and change.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with working knowledge of Service Now, Service Management products and collaboration tools.
Using service reports to monitor and measure service performance of operational services.
You can deliver a consistently high standard of customer service and find ways to improve service, and the user experience

In return for your skills, we offer competitive pay of £35,711 - £36,545.
Plus 20% shift allowance.
You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of 27.1%, worth over £9,000 a year.
