The Linux Support Engineer sits inside the Platform Services Team. This is a hybrid role entailing 1-3 days in the office - working remotely, the office, and relevant data centres when necessary.
General Technical Requirements
A working knowledge of the following systems is necessary to provide third-line support.
Linux systems based on Redhat Enterprise Linux / CentOS / Rocky Linux and Ubuntu.
Web servers and reverse proxies used by the University, Students, Staff, Research and Applications.
LAMP based applications such as Moodle (VLE) and WordPress which include production, test and development systems.
F5 Big IP Load balancers.
Nagios monitoring systems.
Prometheus / Grafana monitoring systems.
RADIUS / LDAP Proxies.
Backend management systems such as Ansible and Katello.
Deploying systems to both physical hardware / servers and Virtual Servers (VMWare).
Third Line Support
Provided general third line support via the central call management system and directly with Service Managers as required.
Develop scripts, programs and playbooks to automate repetitive tasks and for use by support staff to carry out systems tasks.This client is offering a great work culture with a supportive team and the ability to take an autonomous approach in managing the Linux services.
