We are looking for a dedicated individual who is strongly committed to animal welfare, the ethical use of animals for scientific purposes, and the advancement of biomedical discoveries. Basic Requirements:
· Qualified Veterinary Surgeon (DVM, VMD, BVetMed)
· Be a member or registrable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Support the Named Veterinary Surgeon in maintaining the animal care and welfare programme. Act as Deputy Named Veterinary Surgeon when necessary.
· Provide veterinary care, including advice, veterinary care and preventive medicine for a wide range of species.
· Actively participate in the ethics committee (AWERB) and the production of SOPs and policies in relation to animal care and welfare.
· Conduct regular visits and audits of the animal facilities and be proactive in suggesting any refinement.
· Help the establishment and process to remain compliant with current legislations and regulations (Animal Scientific Procedure Act, veterinary medicine regulations) and maintain international animal care standards (AALAC)
· Actively participate in out-of-hours veterinary rota to ensure the continuity of care for the animals.
· Assist with the import and export procedure of the animals, including acting as APHA official veterinarian.
· Support elective experimental procedures by acting as personal licence holder (PILh)
